Martino, Billingham - PJ's Pub Athletes of the Week

Mercedes Martino of the women's rugby team and Robin Billingham of the men’s hockey team have been named the PJ’s Pub Concordia Stingers athletes of the week for the period ending Oct. 12.

Martino, a lock, was instrumental in helping the Stingers pick up a 70-7 win over the Bishop’s Gaiters last Thursday night. She scored three tries and was named the game MVP. The strong showing helped the Stingers pick up their fifth win of the season. Concordia finishes the regular season in third place with a 5-2 win-loss record.

A 21-year-old native of Vaudreuil-Dorion, Que., Martino is in her first year of studies at Concordia.

Billingham, a third-year goaltender, was a key player in two Concordia victories last week. He turned away 33 of 35 shots to help the Stingers defeat the Carleton Ravens 5-2 last Friday. The following day, he stopped 27 of 31 shots in a 10-4 win over the RMC Paladins. In four games this season, Billingham has a 2.81 goals against average and a .922 save percentage.

The 23-year-old student from Ottawa is a Marketing major at Concordia.
