Frederick Roy commits to Stingers men's hockey team

Head coach Kevin Figsby is pleased to announce centre Frederick Roy has signed a letter of intent committing to playing for the Concordia Stingers men’s hockey team in the 2015-16 season.

Roy has an impressive hockey résumé having played parts of five seasons in the QMJHL with the Quebec Remparts. He played 188 regular season games in the junior ranks, picking up 62 goals and 118 assists for 180 points.

He was a QMJHL first team all-star in 2011-12 and the same year he was awarded the Guy Carbonneau Trophy as the best defensive forward in the league.

Roy went on to play two seasons in the American Hockey League with the Rochester Americans. He had 16 goals and six assists for 22 points in 117 games.

The five-foot-10, 170-pound hockey star has decided it’s time to focus on education and building a foundation for a career in business.

“I choose Concordia because I was looking for a great school and a great hockey program,” he said. “I spoke to Olivier Hinse (Stinger captain) and he spoke well of the program. I’m excited and looking forward to getting started.”

Roy will start classes and begin skating with the Stingers in January. He will be eligible to play in September of 2015.
