3rd all-Canadian honor for Kris Robertson

Veteran defensive back Kris Robertson joined a unique and highly accomplished group of Concordia Stingers when he received his third all-Canadian honor at the annual CIS football gala on Thursday night.

Robertson became the second football Stinger to achieve all-Canadian status three times. The first was defensive back Sammy Okpro who was honored in 2005, 2006 and 2007. Several players have been named to the national all-star team on two occasions, including Concordia coaches Mickey Donovan (2003 and 2004) and Patrick Donovan (2005 and 2006).

In the 40-year history of Concordia very few Stingers playing team sports have been three-time all-Canadians. The prestigious list includes: women’s basketball player Kaylah Barrett, Jackie Tittley and Sommer Christie from the women’s rugby program, men’s soccer player Ammar Badawieh, women’s hockey player Corinne Swirsky and women’s soccer player Annie Caron who was a four-time honoree.

One unique aspect of Robertson’s accomplishment is that he has been honored for two different positions. In 2011 and 2012 he was a CIS all-Canadian as a return specialist. This year he was recognized for his play at halfback.

In 2014 Robertson led the Quebec conference in interceptions with five. He also had 15 solo tackles and 13 assists in eight games.
