Rookie earns RSEQ all-star soccer honors

Rookie defender Olivier Georges from the Concordia Stingers men’s soccer team was named to the Quebec conference second all-star team recently.

In 12 games, Georges strong defensive presence earned him game MVP two times. According to Stinger head coach Greg Sutton, Georges was able to adapt very quickly to the university level, and his physical attributes and understanding of the position are something you would see in a veteran defender.

“He really deserved it,” said Sutton. “He came into this team with the right attitude and work ethic that you need to be successful and he reaped the reward.”

Georges, a 20-year-old native of Boucherville, Que., is studying Teaching English as a Second Language. He came to Concordia from the Champlain College, St. Lambert, soccer program where he was a team captain and a collegiate all-star.

The Stingers are looking ahead to the winter season now and are focusing on improving the team collectively as well as individually.

“The results aren’t as important to us as the development of our players in the winter,” said Sutton. “That’s the luxury of the second season.”
