Head coach Mickey Donovan is pleased to announce quarterback Quaid Johnson has committed to the Concordia Stingers football program.
Johnson, a native of St. Lazare, Que., comes out of the John Abbott Islanders program where the versatile and accomplished athlete played quarterback and safety.
“For me it came down to Western and Concordia,” Johnson said. “In the end I chose Concordia because I like what’s going on here and I want to be a part of it. I love the whole rebuilding thing. I was part of a rebuilding phase at John Abbott and I’m leaving when the Islanders are on top. I’ve just got to be part of it again.”
The six-foot-one, 195-pound pivot made a big impression on the Concordia coaching staff.
“We’re very excited to have Quaid join the Stingers family,” said Donovan. “With his commitment we’re already a better team. We’re looking for him to come in and make an impact. With his athleticism there’s a lot we can do with him. Also at John Abbott, Quaid was coached by Pat Gregory who is great offensive mind, and we’re lucky to have a quarterback with that experience.”
Johnson started his three years with the Islanders in 2012 when he was named their Rookie of the Year. He also played four seasons with the Cornwall Wildcats of the OVFL. He was Rookie of the Year with the Wildcats in 2011 and a league all-star as a defensive back in 2013.
Over his Cégep career, Johnson completed 187 of 370 passes for 2626 yards, 30 touchdowns and 10 interceptions.
