Marilyse Roy-Viau of the women’s basketball team and Ricardo Monge of the men’s basketball team have been named PJ’s Pub Concordia Stingers athletes of the week for the period ending Jan. 18.
Roy-Viau, a third-year forward, was exceptional in two victories last week. She had 19 points, eight rebounds and seven steals in a 69-32 victory over the Bishop’s Gaiters last Thursday. In the rematch two days later she led the Stingers with 16 points and seven rebounds in a 62-48 victory. Roy-Viau is currently the top scorer in the RSEQ with an average of 18.8 points a game.
A 23-year-old native of Mirabel, Que., Roy-Viau is a Leisure Science student at Concordia.
Monge, a rookie point guard, was impressive in a pair of games versus the Bishop’s Gaiters last week. He scored 23 points and added four rebounds in a hard-fought 86-84 overtime victory last Thursday. He collected nine points and four assists in a 59-40 loss on Saturday. He currentlly leads the RSEQ in three-point shooting percentage. He has made eight of 16 for a .500 average.
The 20-year-old student from Gatineau, Que. is working towards a degree in Finance at Concordia.
