Women's rugby semifinal too close to call

When the Concordia Stingers host the Laval Rouge et Or in an RSEQ semifinal game tomorrow night at 7 p.m. at Concordia stadium, only a fool would go out on a limb and make a prediction.

“We match up really well,” said Concordia head coach Graeme McGravie. “Both packs are pretty even.

”He may not be able to predict the outcome, but McGravie is pretty sure he knows what the deciding factors will be.

“Tackling is going to be they key for both teams,” he said. “The most physical team will win.”

Concordia is eighth in the CIS Top 10 rankings and boasts a 6-1 win-loss record, while Laval is the 10th-ranked team and finished with a 5-2 record.

The teams met just once in regular season play, on Oct. 10 in Quebec City, and the Stingers walked away with a 22-21 victory.

The winner of this game will meet the winner of the other semifinal game between the Ottawa Gee-Gees and the Montreal Carabins which takes place on Saturday night in Ottawa.

With a new format at the CIS national championship this year, two teams from Quebec will make Final 8. A win in the semifinal game means a berth at the championship tournament taking place at Queen’s University in Kingston, Ont. Nov. 5-8.
