The Concordia Stingers women's basketball team put together an exceptional three-day performance that resulted in a third-place finish at the annual Concordia-Reebok tournament Dec. 29-31.
The University of New Brunswick Varsity Reds won the championship with a 63-50 victory over the Ottawa Gee-Gees.
On the first day of action, the Stingers defeated the Ryerson Rams 74-57. Rookie centre Annie-Pier Gorup paced the team with 14 points and six rebounds. Cshandrika Hutson also stepped up with 11 points and 10 rebounds.
On Dec. 30, Concordia faced UNB in the semifinals and lost a hard-fought battle 65-59. Veteran Melanie Larocque led all scorers in the game with 16 points. Rookie Krystle Douglas chipped in with 14 points for the Stingers.
On the final day, Concordia defeated the Victoria Vikes 64-52 to finish in third place. It was the first time in school history that Concordia won a game versus the accomplished Victoria program.
Stephanie Ramonas was the star of the game, leading all scorers with 16 points. She also had seven rebounds.
