National rugby evaluations at Con U

Representatives from the Canadian national women’s rugby team will use the athletic facilities at Concordia University for testing and skills sessions on Monday.

Matt Barr, the strength and conditioning coach for the senior women's 15-a-side team, and Natascha Wesch, head coach of the national women’s 7s team, will be on hand. Wesch is a former Stinger who earned Concordia Female Athlete of the Year honors in 1994.

Two groups of Quebec athletes will participate in evaluations. Five players currently involved in national team programs will go through testing as part of Rugby Canada requirements. While four members of the Concordia Stingers women’s rugby team will work out in hopes of impressing the Canadian coaches and improving their chances of being considered for national programs in the future.

All-Canadian Sydney Theriault, Ali Olshefsky, top recruit Vanessa Grillo and recent graduate Robin Hemmings will be the Concordia athletes participating in the evaluations.

Physical testing, technique testing, tactical meetings and skill drills will take place throughout the day.
