Concordia-McGill to play soccer in honor of Cadieux

The Concordia Stingers and the McGill Martlets will play the 2nd annual Erica Cadieux memorial game on Sunday at 2 p.m. at Concordia Stadium.

The game is symbolic of women's university soccer supremacy between the two institutions and pays tribute to Cadieux, who died tragically when she was struck by a car in January 2006. The long-time West Island resident is survived by her husband and two young girls.

Afterwards members of Cadieux's family will present the plaque that bears her name to the captains of the winning team.

Cadieux was a mid-fielder/defender with the Stingers women's soccer team 1992-'94. Rhonda Baptiste, a former teammate and one of the event organizers, describes Cadieux as "an exceptional human being who was filled with Stinger pride."

There is no charge to attend the game. However, donations of cash and teddy bears for the Montreal Children's Hospital would be appreciated. At the inaugural game on Sept. 24, 2006, the Concordia Stingers women's soccer alumni raised $1000 and collected 50 teddy bears.

Concordia's women's soccer alumni has rallied around the game. They will play an alumni game at 10:30 a.m. and gather for a social afterwards. Alumni who would like to get in touch can email wsalumni@alcor.concordia.ca.
