Concordia Stingers head coach Graeme McGravie was named women’s rugby CIS Coach of the Year at an awards ceremony held Thursday evening in London, Ont.
In 2007, McGravie’s Stingers finished with an 8-3-1 win-loss-tie record, including four exhibition games and playoffs. The team finished Quebec regular season conference play in third place with a 4-1-1 record.
Concordia defeated the second-place McGill Martlets 10-0 in semifinal action Oct. 19 to advance to the championship game. The win snapped the Stingers’ 23-game winless streak against their cross-town rivals, dating back to 1998.
Concordia went on to defeat the first-place Laval Rouge et Or 17-5 on a cold, rainy afternoon in Ste. Foy, Que. The win gave the Stingers a berth in the national championships which begin today in London, Ont. Concordia makes its first appearance in eight seasons at the end-of-the-year tournament.
In 2005, McGravie took over as head coach of the Stingers women's rugby team after three seasons at the helm of the Concordia men's squad. He is fully-certified Level 3 coach with a wealth of experience at all coaching levels.
McGravie is an employee of Concordia University, working as an academic counselor in the Faculty of Arts and Science.
