The Concordia Stingers swept a doubleheader versus the visiting Bishop’s Gaiters at Concordia gym Friday night to open the second half of the Quebec basketball season.
The Concordia women’s team picked up its first points in conference action with an exciting 70-65 overtime victory over the Gaiters.
Stinger guard Ebony Morris led all scorers in the game with 18 points. Veteran forward Stephanie Ramonas chipped in 15 points and Yasmin Jean-Philippe added 14 points.
The top scorer for the Gaiters was Katy Germain with 12 points.
The Stingers record improves to 1-4 while Bishop’s now has a 2-3 record.
In men’s action, all-star guard Damian Buckley scored 23 points and added 10 assists to lead the Concordia Stingers to a 72-70 victory over the Bishop's Gaiters in Montreal Friday night.
Buckley played 40 minutes and had to really step up with fourth-year forward Dwayne Buckley and centre Jamal Gallier on the bench with injuries.
The top scorer for Bishop's was Hermon Tesfaghebriel with 17 points.
The No. 3-ranked Stingers moved into first place in the Quebec conference with a 4-1 record.Bishop's falls to 2-3.
