Poirier named CIS all-Canadian

Mid-fielder Melanie Poirier was named a second team all-Canadian at the Canadian Interuniversity Sport national championships held at University of Alberta in Edmonton on the weekend.

Poirier is the first Concordia women's soccer player since Sandra Tuppert in 1993 to earn all-Canadian status.

The Laval, Que. native was the leading scorer on the Stingers with five goals and two assists. She helped the Stingers finish in fourth place in the eight-team Quebec conference. Concordia posted an 8-5-1 win-loss-tie record.

Poirier was named a first team Quebec all-star in 2005. She was also a second team conference all-star in both 2003 and 2004.

The third-year Athletic Therapy student also served as the Concordia team captain.
