Women's soccer recruits sign letters of intent

Jorge Sanchez, head coach of the Concordia Stingers women’s soccer program, is pleased to announce two recruits from British Columbia have signed letters of intent and will join his team in August.

Ashley Doktor, a midfielder/forward from Surrey, B.C., and Catrina Guglielmucci, a midfielder from New Westminister, B.C., will bring new dimensions to the Stingers’ offence.

"Ashley will give us some great attacking options both as a flank midfielder or in the striker role,” says Sanchez. “She has extensive soccer experience and will add some much needed offensive punch to our squad. Her size and strength combined with her tactical understanding should make her an impact player right away."

Doktor attends Langley Seconday School where she is an honor student and is part of the Fraser Valley Soccer Academy (a program similar to Québec’s sports etudes program) and a member of her high school soccer team.

The 17 year old currently plays with the Cliff Avenue United FC in Burnaby, B.C. She also played in the North American Super Y League with Abbotsford. Last year, Doktor was a member of the 2008 Pacific Coast Soccer League U21 league champion Tri-City Extreme.

Doktor has also worked out with the Dutch Meiden Votbal Club where many Dutch national youth players train. She received an invitation to a training camp with Holland youth national team. She was also offered a position with the professional FC Twente U17 team in Holland.

Feeding Doktor the ball will be Guglielmucci, her teammate from the Cliff Avenue United FC U18 team.

"Catrina will add another playmaking component to our midfield bringing with her a great tactial vision and good ball distribution skills,” explains Sanchez. “Her maturity and soccer sense make her a possible future captain, and her presence will allow for a more attacking style to be played."

Guglielmucci, 17, attends New Westminister Seconday School where she is an honor student with a 4.0 GPA. She represents her school in soccer, basketball and cross-country.

The midfielder played Super Y league soccer with Abbotsford where she was the team captain. As a league all-star, she earned an invitation to the US national Olympic Development Program camp in Florida.

She has also played in the Pacific Coast League with the Fraser Valley Action U21s and participated in a few premier league games with the clubs women's team.

The Letter of Intent (LOI) is a new CIS initiative that is designed to reduce and limit the recruiting pressures on prospective student-athletes, to educate prospective student-athletes on the most applicable CIS regulations and to assist coaches in their recruiting efforts.
