Soccer all-stars announced

Concordia Stingers mid-fielder Melanie Poirier was named to the Quebec university women's soccer conference first all-star team and two teammates received second team honors.

Poirier, an Athletic Therapy student from Laval, Que., was the leading scorer on the Stingers with five goals and two assists in 14 games. It is the third consecutive year the team captain has been named a Quebec all-star, but it is her first appearance on the first team.

Defenders Skye Moseley and Erica Geertsen were second team all-stars. Moseley, an Arts student from Montreal, collected three goals and two assists this season. Geertsen, who studies Sociology and is a Kirkland, Que. native, scored two goals this season.

The women's soccer team will be in action again Friday night when the Stingers travel cross-town to Molson Stadium to play the McGill Martlets in a Quebec conference semifinal game. Kickoff is 7 p.m.

Two members of the men's team were also all-stars in 2005. Stinger captain Andrew Robinson of Vancouver and forward Alessandro Addesa were named to Quebec's second team. Addesa, a Montreal native, recorded one goal and four assists this season.

The Concordia men's team did not make the playoffs this season. The Stingers will begin preparations for the Quebec indoor season shortly.
