Erica Cadieux game to decide soccer supremacy

The fourth annual Erica Cadieux memorial game between the Concordia Stingers and the McGill Martlets will take place Friday at Concordia stadium at 6:30 p.m.

The game is symbolic of women's university soccer supremacy between the two institutions and pays tribute to Cadieux, who died tragically when she was struck by a car in January 2006.

Cadieux was a mid-fielder/defender with the Stingers women's soccer team 1992-'94. Rhonda Baptiste, a former teammate and one of the event organizers, describes Cadieux as "an exceptional human being who was filled with Stinger pride."

Members of Cadieux's family will be in attendance. They will accept gifts of teddy bears for the Montreal Children's Hospital and present a plaque that features Erica’s name to the captains of the winning team.

There is no charge to attend the game. However, donations of cash and teddy bears for the hospital would be appreciated.

The Erica Cadieux match is the first game in a doubleheader. Concordia’s men’s team will host the McGill Redmen at 8:30 p.m. After a week of road games, Friday will be the home-opener for the Stingers.
