It was a tough route to the title for the Stingers, as they needed to win three consecutive games on the last day of competition to claim the national crown.
Concordia started the day with a 6-2 win over University of Western Ontario in a morning tie-breaking match, followed by a 4-3 last inning win over the Ottawa Gee-Gees in the semifinals at 3 p.m.
Three hours later the Stingers were back on the diamond for the gold medal game. Matt Langton was named player of the game for Concordia. He played first base and contributed a couple of key hits.
Two members of the Stingers were named to the CIBA championship all-star team – shortstop Marco Masciotra and pitcher Julian Tucker.
Concordia qualified for the nationals by winning the CIBA Northern Conference title with a two-game sweep of the Ottawa Gee-Gees on Oct. 17. Sunday's win marked the first time Concordia has won the CIBA championship. The Stingers won a silver medal in 2007.
