Concordia Stinger captain Jackie Tittley earned her second consecutive CIS all-Canadian award when the national honors for women’s rugby were announced at a gala dinner in Vancouver last night.
Tittley, a second-year Leisure Sciences student from Kirkland, Que., was the leading scorer on the Stingers this season with three tries, 22 converts and five penalty goals for 74 points in six regular season games.
The inside centre almost single-handedly qualified the Stingers for this week’s CIS championship scoring eight of her team’s 13 points, including the game-winning penalty kick in overtime, as Concordia upset previously undefeated and defending conference champion Laval 13-10 in the QSSF final played in Quebec City last Saturday.
From a skill point, head coach Graeme McGravie says Tittley has it all. She can kick, pass, run and tackle.
“She’s such a dominant force, other teams in Quebec scheme to run away from her,” McGravie says. “But she can run side-to-side with anyone. She can adapt on the fly and she makes tackles for other people. Her work in the contact area has improved this year and teams are learning that.”
Tittley came to Concordia University after an outstanding career at John Abbott College, with the Quebec U19 Team and with the Canadian U20 Team – all three of which she captained.
