4 Stingers awarded bursaries

 

Four members of the Concordia Stingers sports programs received bursaries and were honored at a gala dinner hosted by the Fondation de l’athlete d’excellence du Québec in Boucherville, Que., on Dec. 1.

Two members of the Concordia wrestling team were acknowledged for their athletic excellence in individual sports.

Nikita Chicoine, a third-year Exercise Science student, earned a $1750 bursary. She was a bronze medallist at the 2009 CIS championships. She placed ninth at the 2008 world junior championships in Turkey. Chicoine was also the Concordia Female Athlete of the Year in 2009. 

David Tremblay was also awarded a $1750 bursary. The second-year Leisure Sciences student won a gold medal and was named the outstanding male competitor at the 2009 CIS championships. Tremblay was the Stingers’ outstanding male rookie in 2009.

A couple of football players were also honorees. Cornerback Kris Robertson of Pickering, Ont. was awarded a $3000 recruitment bursary, while slotback Liam Mahoney, a Lachine, Que. native, collected $1250 as a recipient of a Montreal Alouettes bursary.
