2 cagers named to women's all-star squad

 

Jill Verhesen and Kristin Portwine of the Concordia Stingers women’s basketball team have been named to the conference second all-star team as announced by the QSSF this week.

Verhesen, a fourth-year guard from Edmonton, transferred to Concordia University after three years at Grant MacEwan College. She had an immediate impact on the Stingers. She averaged 39.8 minutes of playing time in 16 games played. She led her team in rebounds with 7.1 a game and assists with 41 on the season. She was second in team scoring, averaging 11.9 points a game.

Portwine, a third-year forward from Kirkland, Que., was the leading scorer on the Stingers with 12.3 points a game. She was third overall in conference scoring. She led Quebec in field goal percentage. She connected on 65 of 129 shots for a 50.4 average.
