Fanny Berthiaume earns inaugural Provost Medal

Fanny Berthiuame, an accomplished goalkeeper with the Concordia Stingers women’s soccer team, will receive the inaugural Provost Medal for Outstanding Achievement at convocation next week at Place des Arts.

It is awarded to the undergraduate graduating student whose commitment and spirit towards academic excellence, leadership, athleticism and civic responsibility reflect the values exemplified by Concordia University and the Office of the Provost. The prestigious honor will be presented by Provost David Graham.

Berthiaume, a fourth-year captain with Concordia, always keeps her grades in Film Animation over 4.0. She was CIS academic all-Canadian in each of her fours years as a Stinger.  She earned the President’s Academic Award for the best GPA amongst female student-athletes in each of the last three years at Concordia.

On the field, the St. Constant, Que. native has been an outstanding ambassador and a quiet leader who allows her play to speak for itself. She was the Stingers’ captain the last two seasons. She was also her team MVP in 2007, 2008 and 2009.

Soccer head coach Jorge Sanchez describes her as a natural leader with a strong work ethic and intensity. She is a very dedicated player who is respected by all her teammates. She was captain of the women’s soccer team in 2008 and 2009.

Berthiaume earns respect around the university women’s soccer league as well. She won the Quebec Student Sports Federation sportsmanship award in both the indoor and outdoor seasons.

Next, Berthiuame will work on film projects, including a documentary set to shoot in Israel later this year. She will also look at opportunities to pursue graduate studies, and she will be encouraged by the Provost to apply for a Rhodes Scholarship.
