The Concordia University baseball team defeated the McGill Redmen to win the Canadian Intercollegiate Baseball Association (CIBA) Northern Conference title and advance to the national championship.
Concordia and McGill played a best-of-three series last weekend to decide the conference title. On Saturday, the teams split a doubleheader. McGill took the first game 5-4, and Concordia came back to win 11-1 in the late game. Concordia won 1-0 in the deciding game last Sunday.
The team will compete at the CIBA national championship hosted by St. Clair College in Windsor, Ont. this weekend. Concordia goes in as the Northern conference champion, McGill has earned a wildcard berth.
There are three games in the preliminary rounds. Concordia will play St. Clair on Friday at 5 p.m. The following day the Stingers meet the Brock Badgers at 10:30 a.m. and McGill at 4 p.m. Semifinal games and the championship are scheduled for Sunday.
Concordia, under the direction of manager Howard Schwartz, is the defending national champion.
