Concordia University’s Elisabeth Williams won a silver medal in the 67 kg weight class at the 9th World University Wrestling Championships held in Turin, Italy on Oct. 27.
In the gold medal match, Williams lost to American wrestler Elena Pirozhkova, who finished second at the World Championships in Moscow in September.
A second-year Exercise Science student from Barney’s River, N.S., she beat wrestlers from Poland and Russia before losing to Pirozhkova.
Her efforts helped Canada finished second in the women’s competition.
As a rookie, Williams won a silver medal at the Canadian Interuniversity Sports (CIS) nationals last March.
David Tremblay, also from Concordia, placed 10th in the 55 kg category on Oct. 26. The native of Stoney Point, Ont. studies in the Leisure Sciences program.
He is a two-time gold medallist at the CIS championships.
