Matthijs Eppinga is the first member of the Concordia Stingers men’s soccer team since Ammar Badawieh in 2003 to be named a Canadian Interuniversity Sport (CIS) all-Canadian.
The exchange student from the Netherlands was named to the second all-Canadian team.
The six-foot-three, 185-pound forward finished the 12-game Quebec league season with seven goals and two assists. He played a part in 60 per cent of the goals scored by the Stingers in the 2010 season. The International Business student was fourth overall in conference scoring. He was named to the league all-star team as voted on by the Quebec coaches.
“Matthijs’s cardiovascular and work rate are rare for a player his size,” said Concordia head coach Lloyd Barker. “The same can be said for his impeccable first touch. He is a perfect teammate on the field and in the locker room. It was truly a treat for me and my staff to coach him.”
The 22-year-old student is in his third of eligibility, having played two seasons at Franklin Pierce University in New Hampshire. He returns to his hometown of Druchten at the end of the fall semester.
