Kaylah Barrett loads up on Quebec awards

Concordia Stinger rookie guard Kaylah Barrett earned several honors when the RSEQ announced its women’s basketball conference award winners.

Barrett, a native of Brampton, Ont., was named the Defensive Player of the Year, Rookie of the Year and was a first team all-star.

She was the leading scorer and rebounder on the Stingers. In 16 league games, she averaged 11.5 points and 7.6 rebounds. She was fourth in Quebec in rebounding. She also led the conference in steals with 47 for a 2.9 average.

“She is an outstanding athlete whose work ethic matches her physical ability,” said Concordia head coach Keith Pruden.

Also honored by the conference was veteran guard Yasmin Jean-Philippe who was named to the second all-star team. It is the second all-star honor for the fifth-year player from Montreal.

Jean-Philippe averaged 10.9 points and 2.3 assists a game. She was fourth in Quebec in three-point shooting connecting on 28 of 78 shots for a .372 percentage.
