Barrett, Desmarais named Athletes of the Week

Kaylah Barrett of the women's basketball team and Kyle Desmarais of the men’s basketball team have been named the Concordia Stingers athletes of the week for the period ending Nov. 21.

Barrett, a second-year guard, was exceptional in Concordia’s 62-60 victory over the Laval Rouge et Or in the Stingers’ home opener on Saturday. She was the top scorer in the game with 22 points. She also hauled in six rebounds and collected two assists. Her efforts helped the Stingers improve their league win-loss record to 2-0. 

A 20-year-old native of Brampton, Ont., Barrett is currently studying Religion at Concordia. 

Desmarais, a third-year guard, was instrumental in helping the Stingers win their 2011 home opener. He scored 16 points and added two assists and a block to lead Concordia to an 88-72 victory over the Laval Rouge et Or on Saturday. The win gives the Stingers a perfect 2-0 record in Quebec conference play.

The 23-year-old student from Montreal is studying in the Economics program at Concordia.
