Barrett, Desmarais named Athletes of the Week

Kaylah Barrett of the women's basketball team and Kyle Desmarais of the men’s basketball team have been named the Concordia Stingers athletes of the week for the period ending Jan. 1.

Barrett, a second-year guard, was exceptional in Concordia’s Reebok tournament Dec. 29-31. She helped the Stingers win two games, including a 67-58 victory over the No. 4-ranked Carleton Ravens, and reach the championship game. In the title match Barrett collected 23 points and seven rebounds in a tough 71-60 loss to the No. 7-ranked Alberta Pandas. Over the three games she averaged 16.2 points and 6.3 rebounds. She was named to the tournament all-star team. 

A 20-year-old native of Brampton, Ont., Barrett is currently studying Religion at Concordia. 

Desmarais, a third-year guard, was instrumental in helping the Stingers get to the final game at the Rod Shoveller Memorial Tournament in Halifax Dec. 29-31. Concordia defeated the Saint Mary’s Huskies and the Dalhousie Tigers before losing to the No. 2-ranked St. Francis Xavier X-Men 94-78 in the championship game. Desmarais averaged 17 points and 4.7 rebounds over the three games and was named to the tournament all-star team.

The 24-year-old student from Montreal is studying Economics at Concordia.
