Barrett, Laroche named Athletes of the Week

Kaylah Barrett of the women's basketball team and Evens Laroche of the men's basketball team have been named the Concordia Stingers athletes of the week for the period ending Jan. 15.

Barrett, a second-year guard, was outstanding in Concordia’s 70-53 win over the UQAM Citadins on Saturday. She registered a double-double with 26 points and 10 rebounds. She also had three assists and two steals in the game. She is averaging 22.6 points a game this season. She is the leading scorer in Quebec and ranks No. 2 in the CIS. The win gives Concordia a perfect 5-0 win-loss record in the Quebec conference. 

A 20-year-old native of Brampton, Ont., Barrett is currently studying Religion at Concordia. 

Laroche, a fourth-year forward, was instrumental in helping the Stingers defeat the UQAM Citadins 68-63 on Saturday. He led all scorers in the game with 17 points. He also had four rebounds. Laroche’s efforts help Concordia improve its record to 5-0 and remain in first place in league play.

The 25-year-old student from Montreal is studying Human Relations at Concordia.
