Barrett, Desmarais named Athletes of the Week

Kaylah Barrett of the women's basketball team and Kyle Desmarais of the men’s basketball team have been named the Concordia Stingers athletes of the week for the period ending Jan. 22.

Barrett, a second-year guard, was a major contributor in Concordia’s two games last week. She scored 21 points and nabbed four rebounds in a 55-51 victory over the Laval Rouge et Or last Friday. The next day she had 10 points, two rebounds and three assists in a 57-52 loss to the McGill Martlets. With an average of 20.6 points a game, she is the leading scorer in Quebec and ranks No. 3 in the CIS. 

A 20-year-old native of Brampton, Ont., Barrett is currently studying Religion at Concordia. 

Desmarais, a third-year guard, was instrumental in helping the Stingers pick up two wins last week. He had 16 points, five rebounds and four assists to lead Concordia to a 78-66 win over the Laval Rouge et Or last Friday. The following day he collected 14 points, two rebounds and four assists to help his team defeat the McGill Redmen 69-61. The Stingers are now undefeated with a 7-0 win-loss record in the Quebec conference.

The 24-year-old student from Montreal is studying Economics at Concordia.
