No Olympic medal for Stinger wrestler David Tremblay

David Tremblay, a four-time all-Canadian wrestler with the Concordia Stingers, was eliminated in the opening round of competition at the 2012 London Summer Olympics this morning.

He lost to Ahmet Peker of Turkey in the men’s 55-kilogram freestyle competition. Peker won in two straight periods by scores of 1-0 and 1-1.

Tremblay, 24, was in London with former Stinger Martine Dugrenier, 32, who is also an assistant coach with the Concordia wrestling program. On Aug. 8, she competed in the women’s 63-kilogram freestyle event, losing the bronze medal match to Battsetseg Soronzonbold of Mongolia.

Concordia mentor Victor Zilberman was also in London as part of Canada’s coaching staff.

Tremblay is expected back with the Stingers this fall. He will continue his Leisure Sciences studies and be looking for a fifth straight gold medal at the Canadian university championships.

Dugrenier and Zilberman will be back supervising the Concordia team.
