The Concordia Stingers women’s rugby team has advanced to the RSEQ women’s rugby championship for the sixth straight year and will travel to Quebec City to meet the Laval Rouge et Or on Saturday at 1 p.m.
In regular season action, the Stingers finished in second place with a 6-1 win-loss record. Concordia went on to defeat the third-place McGill Martlets 12-3 in the Quebec conference semifinals last Friday.
Laval wrapped up the regular season in first place with a perfect 7-0 record. The Rouge et Or defeated the fourth-place Ottawa Gee-Gees 32-13 in the other semifinal game last Saturday.
Concordia and Laval met just once this fall. The Rouge et Or won the contest 27-22 on Oct. 12.
“We match up really well,” said Stinger head coach Graeme McGravie. “I think it will be a pretty tight game like our last game was. We have to take advantage of our chances when we get them. We didn’t do it in the last game. If we execute, we’ll be fine.”
Laval and Concordia have played each other in the Quebec championship game for five straight years - 2007, 2008, 2009, 2010 and 2011. The Stingers won and advanced to the CIS national championship in 2007, 2009 and 2010.
The last championship meeting for the teams was Oct. 29, 2011. Laval won the game 43-27.
The game will be webcast on www.rougeetor.tv.
