Marilyse Roy-Viau of the women's basketball team and Antonio Mastropietro of the men’s hockey team have been named the PJ’s Pub Concordia Stingers athletes of the week for the period ending Jan. 27.
Roy-Viau, a rookie forward, was impressive in two games last week. She had 14 points and eight rebounds in a tough 60-46 loss to the McGill Martlets last Thursday. She scored 16 points and added seven rebounds in an important victory over the UQAM Citadins last Saturday. The win keeps Concordia in the race for first place in the RSEQ. With six games left, the Stingers have a 7-3 win-loss record and are in a three-way tie for first place with UQAM and McGill.
A 21-year-old native of Mirabel, Que., Roy-Viau is currently studying Family Life Education at Concordia.
Mastropietro, a first-year goaltender with the Stingers, helped Concordia pick up three points in two key games last week. He led the Stingers to a 3-2 shootout victory over the McGill Redmen last Friday. He turned away 37 of 39 shots in regulation and the five-minute overtime period. Then he blanked all three McGill players in the shootout. He was also on top of his game in a 6-5 shootout loss to the Ottawa Gee-Gees on Sunday.
The 21-year-old student from Montreal is studying in the Faculty of Arts at Concordia.
