B.C. soccer recruits commit to Stingers

In the next few days two young soccer players from Vancouver will pack their bags and head to Montreal and Concordia University where they will join head coach Jorge Sanchez and the Stingers women’s team for training camp.

Recruits Alli Burgess and Megan Walsh, who are teammates with the very competitive Vancouver Venom under-18 program, have committed to joining the Concordia Stingers. Sanchez is pleased that both recruits have the skills to play as mid-fielders and defenders.

“Alli and Megan are versatile soccer players who will bring a great understanding of the game, a competitive edge and a winning attitude to the Stingers program,” says Sanchez. “They should be solid contributors to our program for the next four years.”

With the Venom, the duo enjoyed a very successful winter season. Their team posted a record of 14 wins, six ties and only one loss. Burgess and Walsh also wrapped up accomplished Point Grey high school careers when their team finished second at the B.C. high school provincials.

Burgess will study in Concordia’s prestigious Exercise Science program, while Walsh will major in political science.

The Stingers open training camp Monday, Aug. 21 and will begin play Friday, Aug. 25 when Concordia host its annual three-day Stinger Challenge.
