Concordia wrestler David Tremblay could reach a rare milestone when the 2013 CIS wrestling championships take place at Western University in London, Ont. this weekend.
If Tremblay finishes first in the 61-kilo weight class, it will be the fifth consecutive time he earns a gold medal at the national championships.
In university men’s wrestling, this has only been seen on two occasions. Former Brock Badgers Ryan Weicker (2001 to 2005) and Jamie Macari (2003 to 2007) each have five gold medals to their credit.
Tremblay of Stoney Point, Ont. could be the first Concordia wrestler to win five gold medals. Stinger Tyler Marghetis (2003-2006 and 2008) won four gold medals and a silver over the course of his career.
The Leisure Sciences student is certainly one of the most highly-decorated athletes in the history of the university. In addition to his accomplishments at nationals, he was named Concordia Male Athlete of the Year in 2011 and 2012 and was the Stingers’ Rookie of the Year in 2009.
Tremblay has enjoyed a lot of success in international wrestling as well. Most recently he represented Canada at the 2012 London Summer Olympics.
