Concordia Stinger guard Kaylah Barrett was named to the CIS first all-Canadian team while forward Marilyse Roy-Viau was named to the national all-rookie team at a championship awards reception in Regina late Thursday.
Barrett, a third-year athlete from Brampton, Ont., earned her second straight all-Canadian honor. She was the only member of the 2013 first team to return to the prestigious squad.
This season the two-time RSEQ MVP played 28.9 minutes a game and averaged 15.2 points a contest.
"Kaylah has proven herself time-and-again to be the kind of player who can simply take over a game,” said Concordia head coach Keith Pruden. “She can score from all over the floor, she is a great defender, she hits the big shots when we need them and she also gives you the hustle plays: the tipped balls, the extra offensive rebound and the big steal.”
Roy-Viau, a first-year forward from Mirabel, Que., played 28.8 minutes a game. She had an average of 13.6 points and 6.4 rebounds.
"Marilyse is a superb multi-position player with tremendous potential,” Pruden said. “She can defend inside and on the perimetre and she is an offensive threat all over the court. She gives us tremendous flexibility offensively and defensively and she has an unmatched passion for the game."
