Concordia strength coach honored by Hockey Canada

Lisa-Marie Breton, a strength and conditioning coach with the Concordia Stingers varsity programs, was presented the Isobel Gathorne-Hardy Award by Hockey Canada on April 25.

A former all-Canadian hockey player with the Stingers, Breton accepted the award at ESSO Cup Female Midget National Championship awards banquet in Hamilton.

Breton is a Canadian Women’s Hockey League founder and a three-time Clarkson Cup champion.

The award has been handed out annually since 1999 and is awarded to a person that has made a significant contribution to female hockey both on and off the ice.

The recipient also possesses values and leadership that represents female athletes and demonstrates strong community involvement and dedication to all aspects of the game.

Lady Isobel Gathorne-Hardy was the daughter of former Governor General of Canada Lord Stanley of Preston. She helped to popularize ice hockey and is considered one of the first women to play the game.

Previous recipients include players from grassroots levels of hockey up to current and former members of Canada’s national team including, Jayna Hefford, Vicky Sunohara and Stinger assistant coach Caroline Ouellette.
