Hockey's Gagne, Faucher honored

Rookie centre Karl Gagné and veteran left wing Fred Faucher were among the honorees when the Ontario university hockey conference announced its all-stars and major award winners this week.

Gagné, an engineering student from Saint Nércé, Que., was named to the OUA East Division second all-star team and the East Division all-rookie team. He led the Stingers is scoring with 15 goals and 17 assists for 32 points in 23 OUA games.

Gagné came to Concordia from the Quebec Remparts program in the QMJHL.

Faucher, an assistant captain from St. Raymond, Que., is the East Division's nominee for the Dr. Randy Gregg Award, which is presented annually to the Canadian university hockey player who best combines outstanding hockey ability, academic achievement and community involvement.

The third-year player maintains a high average in the demanding Exercise Science program. He has previously been awarded the prestigious Guy Lafleur Scholarship by Molson breweries.

Faucher was an OUA second team all-star in 2004-'05 and he was named to the all-rookie team in 2003-'04. He has always been very involved in community events, dating back to his days as a member of the Quebec Remparts.
