Pivotal series for hockey Stingers

The Concordia Stingers men’s hockey team can take a big step towards securing a playoff spot with a strong performance against the RMC Paladins and the Queen’s Golden Gaels at home this weekend.

The Stingers are currently one point out of a playoff spot, trailing the Paladins by one point and the Golden Gaels by three points. Concordia has a game at hand.

“These are the two most important games of the season,” says Concordia captain Trevor Hawkins. “We control our own destiny. Everyone on the team knows it and we are getting excited.”

Concordia will host RMC at the Ed Meagher Arena on Friday at 7:30 p.m. The following day at 2 p.m. Queen’s will be the visitor.

The Stingers played the Kingston teams early in the season, losing to both. Queen’s prevailed 7-5 on Oct. 27 and RMC won 5-2 on Oct. 28.

“We are a completely different team than the one that went to Kingston,” Hawkins says. ‘We have new players and a new attitude. We took them lightly the first time.”
