Trevor Blanchard, the captain of the 2007-’08 Concordia Stingers men’s hockey team, has crossed the ocean and joined the Dundalk Bulls of the Irish Ice Hockey League.
A native of Sudbury Ont., Blanchard will captain the Dundalk senior A team and coach the Junior Bulls under-16 team.
“I’m pretty excited to be here,” said the six-foot-three, 220-pound right wing. “I have a really nice place and they are taking pretty good care of me.”
Blanchard, who was the leading scorer on the 2007 Stingers with 13 goals and 26 assists in 28 games, made an immediate impact with his new team. He scored a goal and added four assists in his first game – a 7-6 loss to the Latvian Hawks.
The Bulls will travel to Serbia in two weeks to compete in the Continental Cup, a top international competition.
“It’s going to be a great experience for me,” said Blanchard who graduated with a BA, major in Leisure Science. “I have (Concordia head coach) Kevin Figsby and the men’s hockey program to thanks for developing me and helping put me together with the Dundalk Bulls. I wish Kevin and all my Stinger teammates luck this year. I will continue to be an avid follower of the program for years to come.”
