Mike Baslyk scored two goals, including the game-winner, to give the Concordia Stingers a 6-3 victory over the Carleton Ravens in Game 1 of the OUA quarterfinals at the Ed Meagher Arena in Montreal on Wednesday night.
The veteran right wing from Montreal scored Concordia’s first goal and the winner early in the third period.
Nicolas Lafontaine also chipped in with two goals for the Stingers, while singles came from captain Simon-Pierre Sauvé and Marc-André Rizk who scored on a penalty shot.
Rookie left wing Cory McGillis picked up three assists – a first for the sharp-shooter. Since joining the Stingers in January, the Sudbury, Ont. native rolled up nine points in nine games – all goals.
Goaltender Maxime Joyal turned away 29 of 32 shots for the victory.
Game 2 will be played in Ottawa on Friday at 7 p.m. If necessary, Game 3 will be back at the Ed Meagher Arena on Sunday at 4 p.m. If required, the deciding game will be Web cast at stingers.ca.
