Goalie Shrider tallies 2nd straight win for men's team

Goaltender Mike Shrider backstopped the Concordia Stingers men’s hockey team to a second straight victory, facing down the Ottawa Gee-Gees 3-2 Friday night at the Ed Meagher Arena in Montreal.

The Newcastle, Ont. native turned away 29 of 31 shots for the victory.

Up front the Stingers had goals from Anthony Piittarelli, Marc-André Rizk and captain Marc-André Element who notched the winner in the third period.

The win moves Concordia into a playoff spot in the OUA standings, ahead of Ottawa and the RMC Paladins.

Shrider also picked up a victory last Wednesday versus the Carleton Ravens. He came in after 20 minutes to relieve starter Maxime Joyal who left with an injury. In 45 minutes of play, he allowed just two goals on 22 shots.

He also stared down the Ravens in an overtime shootout. He stopped two of three Carleton snipers, while the Stingers scored on all three of their shots, getting shootout goals from George Lovatsis, Peter James Corsi and Element.

In regulation time, Alexandre Monahan and Corsi were the scorers.

The Stingers won the game 3-2.

Concordia has picked up points in each of its last four games. The Stingers hope to extend that streak Wednesday night when they travel to Trois-Rivières to face the UQTR Patriotes.
