Men's hockey team cracks CIS Top 10

For the first time in more than a decade, the Concordia Stingers men’s hockey team is ranked in the weekly CIS Top 10 media poll.

The Stingers take over the No. 9. spot in the rankings that were released yesterday by the CIS.

“I’m certainly pleased,” said Stinger head coach Kevin Figsby. “It’s a tribute to the dedication of our players. Now that we’re there, we’ll have to work even harder to stay there. I’m confident in our players’ work ethic.”

It marks Concordia’s first Top-10 appearance since the 1999-2000 season when the Stingers were ranked on four occasions (No. 8 on Oct. 18, No. 6 on Oct. 25, No. 5 on Nov. 1, No. 10 on Feb. 14).

Figsby’s team is off to a great start in the 2010-’11 season, running up a 5-1 win-loss record. The Stingers are currently in second place in the 10-team OUA East conference.

The Stingers travel to Ontario this weekend to face the Nipissing Lakers and the Toronto Varsity Blues. They return home to play the Ryerson Rams on Nov. 5 and the Queen’s Golden Gaels on Nov. 6.
