The 1973 Loyola Warriors men's soccer team brought great honor to the college and the local soccer community by becoming the first Quebec institution to win a national championship. On Sunday, November 11, Loyola defeated the Alberta Golden Bears 4-3 in the final of the championship tournament, which was played at Memorial University in St. John's, Newfoundland. At the end of regulation time, neither team had scored. The overtime period came to a close with the teams deadlocked at 1-1. Next they went to penalty kicks to decide the game. Jim Corsi, Martin Sosnowski and Tony Madiou scored for the Warriors, while Alberta could only muster two goals. En route to the national championship, coach Harry Hus's team compiled a perfect 10-0 win-loss record and extended the Warriors' unbeaten streak in league play to 50 games.
