Cagers upset No. 2 UBC

All-Canadian forward Pat Perrotte scored 19 points to lead his No. 6-ranked Concordia Stingers to an 84-70 victory over the UBC Thunderbirds, the No. 2 team in Canadian university men's basketball, at the Guy Vetrie Memorial Tournament in Victoria last night.

Perrotte, the team captain, was eight for 11 from the floor and two for two from the line. He also had three rebounds and two assists.

Overall, five Stingers were in double figures: Ben Sormonte, 17 points; Damian Buckley, 13 points and 11 assists; Dwayne Buckley, 13 points, and Jamal Gallier, 12 points.

The leading scorer in the game was UBC's Jason Birring with 24 points.

The score at halftime was 33-24 for the Stingers, who stretched the lead to 25 points with eight minutes remaining in the game.

Concordia faces the No. 3-ranked Victoria Vikes this evening at 8 Pacific time.
