After serving as interim head coach during the 2025-2026 season, the Concordia Stingers are proud to announce the appointment of Damian Buckley as head coach of the men's basketball team.
“I am relieved and excited to be officially named head coach,” Buckley said. “I am thrilled and honored that Concordia has placed its trust in me to lead the Stingers men’s basketball program and continue the work begun with the progress made last season.”
An exceptional point guard during his university career, Buckley played for the Stingers from 2005 to 2009 and remains one of the most decorated athletes in the program's history. He was named to the RSEQ All-Star team in each of his four seasons, twice received the Concordia Male Athlete of the Year award, and capped off his career by being named RSEQ Player of the Year in 2008-2009 and a member of the CIS First All-Canadian Team.
Following his playing career, Buckley turned to coaching. He first held an assistant coaching position with the Stingers before expanding his experience with the Ottawa Gee-Gees. More recently, he was part of the coaching staff for the Montreal Alliance of the Canadian Elite Basketball League (CEBL).
In his first season at the helm, Buckley led the Stingers to a 10-9 record, good for third place in the RSEQ standings. Concordia then reached the conference semifinals, where the team lost to the Laval Rouge et Or, the eventual RSEQ champions.
LThe Stingers will begin their 2026-2027 RSEQ season on November 7 at Bishop's before playing their home opener on November 12 at 8 p.m. against McGill at the Concordia gymnasium.
