Stingers win international cage event

The Concordia Stingers men’s basketball team defeated Estonia 63-57 to win the International Academic Sport Association Tournament in Be’er Shava, Israel this afternoon.

All-star guard Damian Buckley scored 19 points and Dwayne Buckley chipped in 11 to lead the Stingers to victory.

Patrick Perrotte’s 36 points gave Concordia a 63-61 win over Serbia in the semifinals.

Coach John Dore and his charges head to Tel-Aviv to begin play in the second annual Friendship Games basketball tournament at Tel-Aviv University. It runs through June 8.

Approximately 30 university teams from 17 countries including Russia, China, Serbia, Jordan, Ireland, Greece, Turkey, Palestine, Ukraine, Slovenia and Israel will compete in the round-robin tournament with each team playing five games.

In addition to the tournament, the Friendship Games give student-athletes of different ethnic and religious backgrounds the opportunity to come together in friendship by touring Jerusalem, the Dead Sea, Nazareth, Sea of Galilee, Tiberias and Tel-Aviv-Jaffa.
