Concordia Stinger point guard Damian Buckley was honored as a second team all-Canadian when the top university basketball players in the CIS were fêted at a banquet in Ottawa last night.
Now in his third season with the Stingers, Buckley is the heart and soul of the team – offensively, defensively and on and off the court.
The athletic Montrealer performed his own duties at an exceptionally high level and carried a big extra load because of the injuries suffered by his teammates. Despite being the main focus of every team’s defence, he was able to put up superb numbers.
20.9 points a game – 1st on Stingers, 2nd in QSSF
93 assists (5.8) – 1st on Stingers, 1st in QSSF
35 steals (2.2) – 1st on Stingers, 1st in QSSF
94 rebounds (5.9) – 2nd on Stingers
While he has won three Quebec conference all-star honors in his university career, this is his first all-Canadian award.
