Stinger cagers clinch first place in QSSF

The Concordia Stingers weekend sweep of the Bishop’s Gaiters locked up first place in the QSSF men’s basketball conference and home-court advantage throughout the playoffs.

A 91-77 victory at home last Friday and a 75-66 win the following night in Lennoxville, Que., gives Concordia a 10-4 win-loss record and first place in the Quebec conference standings.

Two games remain on the regular season schedule, but no one can catch the Stingers. Both the UQAM Citadins and the Laval Rouge et Or can finish with 10 wins, but Concordia owns the tie-breaker with both teams.

This weekend the Stingers will play a home-and-away series with the McGill Redmen. Concordia plays at McGill Friday at 8 p.m. The Stingers will host the Redmen on Saturday at 4 p.m.

The Quebec playoffs begin Friday, Feb. 27 with two semifinal games. The Stingers will host the Redmen once again. Tipoff is 7 p.m. Laval and UQAM will meet in the other semifinal game.

The league championship will be held Thursday, March 5.
