Led by MVP Kyle Desmarais, three members of the Concordia Stingers earned league recognition when the Quebec university mens basketball honor roll was announced this week.
Desmarais, a second-year guard from Montreal, was co-MVP with forward Jérôme Turcotte-Routhier of the Laval Rouge et Or. The Stinger standout averaged 19.3 points a game in 16 regular season games. He was second in scoring in the conference. He also averaged 5.3 rebounds a game.
The Economics major scored 26 points in the Quebec semifinal game versus the UQAM Citadins last night to help the Stingers win 89-74 and advance to the championship game.
Desmarais outstanding play and leadership were instrumental in helping his team finish first in the Quebec conference with a 12-4 win-loss record.
Joining Desmarais on the first all-star team is fourth-year guard Decee Krah of Hamilton, Ont. With an average of 16.1 points a game, Krah was fourth in league scoring. He led Quebec in three-point shooting with 49 in 16 games and a .422 average. His rebounding average per game was 4.2.
Rounding out the Stingers award winners is fourth-year forward James Clark who was a second team all-star. The Toronto native averaged 11.8 points and 5.3 rebounds a game.
All three will be in action Friday at 7 p.m. when the Stingers host the Rouge et Or in the Quebec championship game at the Concordia gym.
