Kyle Desmarais, a second-year point guard with the Stingers, was named to the CIS second all-Canadian team announced on the eve of the men’s basketball national championship in Halifax.
The Stinger standout averaged 19.3 points in 16 regular season games. He was second in scoring in the conference. He also averaged 5.3 rebounds a game.
“Kyle stepped up as a point guard and continued to improve throughout the season,” said Concordia head coach John Dore. “He controls the ball and runs the offence. Kyle has been the heart and soul of our team all year.”
In the RSEQ conference, Desmarais was co-MVP with forward Jérôme Turcotte-Routhier of the Laval Rouge et Or. He was also a first team all-star.
The Economics major was a four-time Concordia Male Athlete of the Week. He was the MVP of the Wilfrid Laurier tournament last October. He was also an all-star at the Laurentian and Rod Shoveller tournaments.
Desmarais’ outstanding play and leadership were instrumental in helping his team finish first in the Quebec conference with a 12-4 win-loss record. He also led the Stingers to semifinal and championship victories in league playoffs.
